Feel Happy with Five Small Changes…
It’s difficult out there in the world. Childhood might have been painful for you, too; so were you counting on adulthood to feel better? More content? Peaceful? Happy? Over-the-moon with happiness?
If you’re there, great! If you want some more happy in your day then read on. This post is all about you.
You Don’t Need to Know Yourself to Find Happiness. Seriously. You can toss away the quizzes and self-help books. Just choose a path and walk it. If you’re already doing some things in your week, and you don’t hate it; then put more effort into it. Elevate what you’re doing to find more happiness. Feel pleased with yourself, once you exert just a little more effort each week.
Readers tackle some meaty books. Runners find inspiration in a magazine and run a race. Even if you run a fifteen minute mile. Cook fabulous meals. Bake creations, then share with neighbors. Fix that junky truck. Learn about WWII or the Titanic.
It’s amazing what you can study online,or through books and by learning from others. You don’t need to love it, but you do need to do it.
Accomplish Something. This isn’t an easy read, is it? To feel happiness, you were made to exert effort, extend yourself beyond your limits, and strive. For what? Choose. Send a recipe into a magazine to be published. Pass that test. It can be as easy as carving a pumpkin for Halloween and letting others see it. Make your bed and go from there. Push yourself a little more than you like, because the reward of finishing well brings happiness.
Scare Yourself. It’s worth it to go where you think you’ll fail. Surpassing your limits that are in your mind means you will feel thrilled when you’re better than you think. You can do more than you believe.
Too many doubters placed ideas in your head. “You’re not the smart one.” Says who, and how do they know? You’re a hell of a lot smarter than anyone knows, so go out there and prove it. Do school. Learn a trade. Sing in front of people. Talk to strangers, though not in a creepy way. If it scares you a bit, then you’re heading into happiness. Learn to swim. Learn how to be pretty. Yes, you are; you just don’t know the tricks of makeup and hair yet.
Life should scare you a little. Being a dad or mom is terrifying, but your parents did it. Ride the roller coaster of life. Push through your fear.
Laugh. Don’t be too serious. Find a way to see the humor in situations. There is a time and place for professional behavior, but after that you might as well laugh about being caught in a rainstorm while walking. Laugh at how you manage to always pick the slow lane of traffic on the freeway. Laugh with others. Laugh alone. People, animals, and life are all funny.
Be Nice. To you, to your family, to your friends and to people who don’t know you. Smile. Ask someone how they’re doing. Hold the door open. Expect no thanks, but when your smile is returned, you’re going to feel happy.
Overlook your brother’s political rants, and find another topic. Forgive your mother and ask her questions about her childhood. Be nicer to them than they are to you, because it costs you nothing; and the little surprises of returned happiness you discover are worth the rejection of others. Don’t be bullied. Stay away from the bullies, but by being nice you’ll find your tribe.
You are worth it. You deserve happiness. You are worth more than you know. So pick one of these ideas and find some bliss today. Think about how you’re going to act. What path you’ll choose. And live it.
