Real Royals and Then Some

What the royals were up to this week, along with the California division…

What an incredible week for royal watchers! We have so much news on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, better known as Prince William and Catherine, the Queen made her autumn debut, and Harry and his wife tried to make a splash in New York City. Not to mention Princess Beatrice’s new baby and Prince Charles saying (threatening?) to reduce the places he will live and rule from along with the Cambridges.

Let’s get this royal party started!

I admire Prince William and his wife, Catherine, so much that I’ll start with them. They made quite a splash at the London premiere of the James Bond No Time to Die movie, with Catherine slaying the red carpet in a gold sparkled gown with a cape. She didn’t wear a clutch, and she looked every inch the superstar a lá royalty. Catherine does have the body of a model, so it was fabulous to see her turning up the heat with this designer gown, and I hope this is a taste of what’s to come from her going forward. Prince William seemed thrilled with his smoking hot wife.

The couple showed how close they both are to Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall at the premiere, and what a breath of fresh air to see four royals enjoying each others’ company.

William had quite a busy week, and his Earthshot prize had turned out to be a wonderful idea, with many notable names sitting on the Earthsot council, such as Queen Rania, Sir David Attenborough, Ernest Gibson, Cate Blanchett and more. Prince William came up with the idea after reading about President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot program, which saw many working together to achieve sending men to the moon. William said he wants to “look my children in the eye and say I did my bit”. This is turning out to be an amazing project.

Catherine visited the British troops who got their citizens out of Afghanistan, then she visited the lakes district and looked quite comfortable descending a mountian, well, maybe a very incredibly large hill. Then Catherine joined Prince William in Derry/Londonberry, Northern Ireland where the duchess held a large tarantula while meeting young people in the area. The spider’s name was Charlotte, which made the couple laugh.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan decided to spend three days in NYC to film parts of their life for Netflix. They were in New York at the same time the UN General Assembly was meeting, and while the couple has been hoping for a boost from fans in the east; since they haven’t had much success in Hollywood; NYC didn’t deliver. Harry and Meghan did meet with the mayor of NYC and the governor of New York, but they didn’t have a fan base to greet them the way people wait to meet most royals.

Meghan spent millions on a winter wardrobe, which is weird for the last week in September. Maybe the California native thought snow starts falling immediately after summer’s end, but she had to be sweltering in cashmere suits and full winter coats. They met with public school students in Harlem, where they hugged kids while wearing no masks, which didn’t sit well with the parents of the students. Add Harry pushing aside an exuberant young student, and the visit felt off-kilter. Meghan did read her book, The Bench, to the kids at the school, too.

Harry and Meghan ended their time in the Big Apple by taking in some sights, paying to have fans at their appearance at the Global Citizen Live concert where they spoke on giving vaccines to poor countries (which sounds nice but is difficult for pharmaceutical companies to do), and the climate change warriors climbed on their private plane and flew home. Maybe this couple who wants a quiet, private life needs to stay out of sight for a while.

Queen Elizabeth is making her way south from Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she stopped to plant a tree with her son, Prince Charles. Charles made the news by stating he was going to live in just a portion of Buckingham Palace when he rules, and he’ll open more of the castle to the public. Not only that, but Charles doesn’t want to live at Windsor Castle due to the noise made by the planes at nearby Heathrow Airport, but he thinks William and Catherine would like it there.

I can’t speak for the younger royals, but why would they want to live with the noise if Charles doesn’t? Can’t they stay at Kensington Palace, or is it their desire to be out of London? Charles is also supposed to be thinking about turning Balmoral Castle into a museum for Queen Elizabeth II. The prince doesn’t want to shut too many buildings down, because George, Charlotte, and Louis will need places to live; but it seems like Sandringham might be open also. Changes are coming, and it would be so fun to see some of these castles. I’d make a trip to see as many of them as possible. Would you?

I’ll wrap it up with Princess Beatrice announcing the name of her newborn daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, which pays homage to her lovely grandmother. It seems like the newest addition to the family is well-loved. No photo of their child has been released, but that makes sense these days. Welcome to the world little Sienna!

That’s it for this week, but since the royals are just starting their busy season we will have lots of royal watching to do.
