Royal Rivalries

And other interesting tales of our favorite Brits…

While Queen Elizabeth has been seen at a few events, most people are remarking about her use of a stick, or what we call a cane. I felt worse that the Queen has been told not to enjoy her alcoholic beverages, and it’s not as if the dear queen was showing up loaded to events. Why not enjoy that gin and DuBonnet? Champagne? Why not?

Even my mom thinks the Queen should drink what she chooses and ignore the physicians. My mom just started using her own cane, but if she’s having a drink my mom is in for the night. Why can’t the beloved monarch use her new cane and eat and drink the way a 95 year old should? Meaning any way they choose. They’re 95 after all.

The real news of the week was the Earthshot Prize Awards held this past weekend, where Prince William; who came up with this brilliant idea to reward people and their projects in order to save this planet from destruction, so William and the council awarded five winners $1,000,000! William and the Duchess of Cambridge both look like a cool million dollars with him in a green velvet jacket, and Catherine in a lovely lilac gown she wore ten years ago.

The Washington Post

The attendees were all asked to rewear an outfit from before, which reminded me of William telling his mom, Princess Diana, that she could sell her famous designer gowns for charity. William knows a thing or two about how to dress, and watching the stars come out in gorgeous clothes they’ve already worn was fascinating. Many celebrities attended this event, and Prince Charles said he was so proud of his son for doing this.

Some people who still love the California couple who left royal life for a private, quiet, unobtrusive life far from the paparazzi (no problems there, since they aren’t followed anymore) and the glare of the spotlight and throngs of fans; well, some leftover fans haven’t been happy with the Cambridges’ success. They seem to blame the royals in Britain for Harry and Meghan not doing so well these days.

Harry and his wife’s popularity has gone down so far since the early days of their engagement announcement, and it is all their own fault. They oversaturate the media with their stories of parties, or going to the UK and then not going to the UK, and they announce arrangements with many, many different companies that are supposed to be bringing them the hundreds of millions of dollars that they used to have in Britain as working royals.

Daily Express news

Whatever happened to their Netflix projects? Spotify podcasts? These failures have nothing to do with Prince William and Catherine. Thye’ve managed to fail on their own. As for the PR they employ, the stories are often fibs. Was Meghan really going to take this baby nobody in the world has ever seen all the way to London to have her christened, when Meghan is afraid to go to Britain and face the scorn of the good citizens who live there? No. Her bluff was called, only after the strong-minded William said Harry and wife could not come over for a Christening.

Thank you to William, who is coming into his own now. He speaks for all the royals, and I think even Princess Anne approves of him. Prince Philip would be very proud of his grandson, and we know Anne is very like her father in that she suffers no fools; and she is striaght forward in her approach to life. It’s Princess Anne who is the hardest working royal in terms of engagements carried out, and I think she feels like William’s approach to leading the royal family is equally not fussy and businesslike.

I admire Anne and her work ethic. She willingly works for her mother, and now that the Queen is slowing down; it looks like Princess Anne is keeping as busy as ever! Prince Charles, poor man, is facing the side of the public that don’t support him being king. There are billboards in Wales, and likely other places in the country, where his image is pasted for all to see; demanding that he not be made king. That’s tough. I feel sorry for the prince.

On the other side, there’s been a poll that shows Prince William’s popularity far surpasses his father’s, and somedays I wonder if Camilla really even wants to be Queen (Consort). Apparently, Anne is still upset that Camilla might be named Queen Camilla, but that just might be for the click bait. (It worked, and I clicked on it.) It would be nice to know the family is rallying round Charles.

USA Today

I think William should be the face of the monarchy, but I’m not in charge. It’s just that Charles has an unsavory brother, Andrew, and then his divorce from the uber popular Diana, and now the revelation that he might have been selling access to himself. That reminds me of all the times Sarah, Duchess of York did that herself. Maybe Prince William is so appealing because he rises about the fray.

There are no new pics of the Cambridge children, so I’ll post when they are seen out and about. I’ll also post whenever Harry and Meghan’s children (?) show up in the news. We’re heading into the heart of autumn when most of the royals will be out in force, and I’ll write and post on any fun news that pops up. Until then…
